A Birthday Card...for a girl

My daughter was going to a birthday party this weekend so I gather what I have around and made a B-day card.  For inspiration I used the sketch below from Saturday Sketch and the stamp that I bought from Your Next Stamp, for being a winner on their challenge website.  I was excited to receive and use this stamp. 

And here is my take on the sketch.....

I wanted to try my hand at making a different card this time.  So I gave it a shot and made a "gate" card. It was a challenge trying to do the gate card and the above sketch at the same time. I had to measure everything twice.  What's that saying? "Measure twice and cut once"!  That's exactly what I did.

For this card, I used DP from Basic Grey.  I happend to buy a stack of them a while back and I have enjoyed using them in a lot of my projects. I just love the colors!  I didn't feel like digging around for some flowers, so I remembered the shabby flowers I made from a previous card and decided to do the same as well.  I love how it turned out.  It looks like it doesn't belong but the BG papers made it work!  I can't for the life of me remember where and whom the ribbon is from.  I want to say May's Arts but I could be wrong.  I was a little hesistant to use my copics to color Fhiona but I decided to challenge myself and refused to grab my color pencils.  It actually turned out pretty well. I hope the birthday girl enjoys this card as much as I've enjoyed challenging myself to make it.

For the Hostess...

This past weekend, I was invited to a "Girl's Luncheon" with all my girlfriends from high school.  The hostess is a very good friend of mine. We had known each other since 5th grade.  It was so nice to catch up with each other. We're planning on keeping the luncheon going once a month this year.  It's amazing how close we all live together and yet we can't find the time to see each other more often. Hopefully we can keep this up.  So, I thought I send her a card for hosting and for inspiration, I used the Mojo Monday sketch below.



Here's my take on the sketch. I used a Hero Arts flower stamp, stamped it three times and then colored them with copic markers.  I cut them each out and layered them with pop dots for a more dimensional look.  I added some stickles around the edges for sparkle.  My DP is from Basic Grey.  I used the swiss dot folder to emboss the green Basic Grey paper in order to add more dimension, added some lace, buttons (from PTI) and twine to complete the card.  The sentiment is actually from PTI.

I'm actually amazed at how the card turned out.  I really like and enjoy making this card.

Mono Baby Boy Blue

I wish I had more time to craft and create. I was trying to do one project a week and then things happen and before you know it, I'm behind in my goals. Oh, well.  Here is the my take on Sketch 53 from Papertake Challenge.

This is a card I made for a baby boy.  I was going for a monochramatic look.  I saw this quilling technique from the March issue of CardMaker magazine and had to try it out. It was a lot of work and I had to finally hot glue those tiny little toes because it would unravel so easily. It took me about 10 times to get the tear drops just right. It was more time than I wanted to spend but it was just so cute I just had to try it.  I was glad for the sketch.  That made making the card go by so much faster.  It took me about half an hour to put the card together.  For the background I used Hero Arts stamps and for the rest, I used PTI paper and baby sentiment.  PTI also have this cool technique that I wanted to try.  I received some MS glitter for my birthday awhile ago but really didn't know how to use them. So I loved having to just put down the score tape and pour glitter on it.  I didn't have to wait for it to dry. I could just move on with the next two glitter strips.  I loved it. It was a quick card to make, especially since I had made the footprints a head of time.

truly.madly.deeply Part II

Okay.  So, the first card, I made, I wasn't too satisfied with, so I decided to give it a shot again.  And besides, I just love this stamp of these two cute couples, it just reminds me of "me and my L".  For a card sketch inspiration, I looked to Sketch Saturday and their sketch for this week.

And here is my take using the beautiful Belles N Whistle Stamps, part II.

This time I used my colored pencils, which I'm a little more comfortable in coloring than Copic Markers. The DP is from Making Memories Newsprint Word Love Struck.  I went again for the vintage look.  I added some lace and ribbons. I tried the same flower technique from before but without the ribbons around it. 

I think I just like the look of the vintage flower so much better this time around.

I really like the card so much more.  The colors coordinated well and I was so excited that the DP turned out to look so "vintage". I distress the heck out of everything.  I love the sentiment stamp from A Muse. I'm glad I took another chance on this card.

Truly, Madly, Deeply Card

When I saw this stamp, I was so excited, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.  I was esctatic to have receive this stamp just in time for Valentine's Day and for the following challenges.

I used copic markers to color the stamped image. I'm still learning but I couldn't color the hair the way I wanted to and so I had to use coloring pencils.  I wanted to go for a vintage look but somehow I didn't have the right copic colors and threw in some purple. I used distress inks around the image, added lace and ribbons.  I saw this technique and wanted to give it a try.  This card took much more time than I had anticipated.  I think it was mostly because I didn't have the right colors and I really didn't know exactly how "vintage" I wanted to go with this card. But over-all, it turned out okay.  I think, I might give it another shot and try for round two here.

Happy Birthday Friend!

For an inspirtion on making a birthday card for a really good friend of more than 20 years, I used this sketch from Crafts 4 Eternity.

I had a fun time making this card. I used Mimi with Birthday Cake from Danami Design, a great little girlie stamp, and colored it with copic markers. I still need to work on coloring with copic markers.  There's a class coming up  that I will try to get in and see if I can improve on my coloring.  I used DP from Basic Grey's Urban prairie line and Nook and Pantry cupcakes.

I'm an Aunt (again)!

Congratulations are in order to my brother and sister-in-law.  They had their fourth baby but FIRST girl!  So excited for them. So, when I saw this sketch by Mojo Monday,I made to make card for them.

I just bought some glossy accents for the first time and thought I would give it a try on the heart, for an epoxy effect.  

Not so bad, just took a long time to dry.
